Future Problem Solving
Future Problem Solving
Future Problem Solving (FPS) is recognised as one of the eight most appropriate programmes in the world for the extension of gifted and talented students. It is a team activity, otherwise known as “The Sport of the Mind”.
The FPS programme teaches applied systems thinking so students can tackle problems which may arise in the future creatively, critically and ethically. Past challenges have included Climate Threat - Climate Change, Weather Control, Smart Clothes, Cultural Prejudice and Living in Space.
Students participate across the world, and the international finals are held each year in the USA where New Zealand students have been highly successful.
Future Problem Solving has been in operation at Timaru Girls High School since 2005, and provides a different sort of team sport for competitive girls who may become our leaders of tomorrow. Like all sports, it is demanding, developmental and a lot of fun. Our motto is “It’s cool to be smart”.
