The Timaru Girls’ High School Junior B Basketball team were thrilled to win the South Canterbury Basketball Junior B Grade competition.

The team had a comfortable lead going into the final 3 minutes, but, due to the stop clock, Geraldine was able to make a strong comeback. Despite this TGHS had done enough in attack and defence to secure a 32-29 victory.

The players were very pleased to cap off a very successful season with this result. Other highlights for the season included an unbeaten run from round three onwards in the local competition, an exciting come from behind draw in the Waitaki exchange, and a win in the Aoraki Secondary Schools’

First Shizuoka Eiwa Girls' Junior High School Visit Great Success

Shiz_1

The first visit to Timaru Girls’ High School from Shizuoka Eiwa Girls’ Junior High School was a great success and enjoyed by all. The party of 20 girls headed by their teacher Mr Kirihara spent every morning of their week with us in an ESOL class developing their English skills and during the afternoons they were integrated into the school’s regular Year 9 and 10 classes.  The Timaru community welcomed the girls into their homes and made sure they had a good time while they were in south Canterbury.

TGHS International Students go to Queenstown

International students have been to Queenstown. They went to see another beautiful part of New Zealand and also to get to know each other a bit better. They travelled by school mninvan stopping off along the way to have refreshments and take photos. Activities at Queenstown included Bungee jumping, going up the gondolas to the restaurant at the top of the mountain, shopping, walking around the lake, eating out at a Thai restaurant and generally having fun.

Timaru Girls' High School Stage Challenge 2010

Stage Challenge was an amazing experience. I was incredibly proud on the night of the effort put in by all the girls, committee and staff involved.

We received excellence awards for our set design and soundtracks and this is something to be proud of. I would like to personally thank everyone involved and I can only hope that we have set a standard for future years to live up to.
