BYOD (bring your own device) is encouraged at Timaru Girls’ High School. It is seen as a way to enhance learning opportunities for our girls through IT. BYOD also allows students to access class materials and communicate with their teachers remotely. It is expected that access to BYOD will create more opportunities to foster achievement and dismantle barriers to learning.
The decision to encourage BYOD at Timaru Girls’ High School has been made after consultation with the school community. It is expected that these devices will help to supplement those already available for long term student borrowing through the school.
A limited supply of school devices are made available each year. An annual lease of $50 is charged to students accounts who are wishing to utilise this resource.
All leased devices and charges must be returned at the end of each year for upgrades. We ask that families please respect these devices and ensure your daughter looks after it.
A Chromebook Loan Agreement is availabe at the office.
If you don’t currently have a device and are looking at purchasing new, your device should meet the following specifications.
Please note, phones are not suitable for BYOD.
Devices can be purchased at computer supply stores in Timaru or online such as Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman, Smiths City, and PB Tech. If you intend to purchase new, a device of this capability may range from $400-$600.
