PROVIDING LEARNING SUPPORT THROUGHOUT YOUR DAUGHTER'S EDUCATION

Learning Support Programme

Experienced teacher aides in a supportive and caring Learning Support environment

The Learning Support Programme is designed to ensure that the transition into secondary school and into the wider workforce and community is one that is as smooth as possible for your daughter.

Our experienced teacher aides are qualified to work alongside students with specific learning, social or physical needs in our supportive and caring Learning Support environment.

Lead by our SENCO, Joy O’Connor, the Learning Support team can ensure that any student that appears to be struggling with reading or writing at Timaru Girls’ High School can be assessed and supported throughout their education.

How we can help

We can undertake applications for special assessment conditions to the NZQA to assist students taking NCEA qualifications and should they need the help of reader/writers or even an extension or separate accommodations.

A remedial reading programme is also provided for our students in year 9 and 10 who may require some extra tuition in basic phonics or a confidence boost in literacy support.

Where we can, we enable all students to be mainstreamed in our classrooms, but we also have the option of our teacher aides working alongside individuals or small groups on specific projects outside of the classroom environment.
