PRESERVING OUR HERITAGE AND LINKING PAST WITH PRESENT
TGHS Old Girl’s Association still plays a significant role in celebrating past and present

 FELLOWSHIP AND PRIDE IN HERITAGE

Timaru Girls’ High School’s former students are proud of attending our school and we have a very strong Old Girls’ Association.
All former students are welcome to join the Old Girls’ Association and are invited to join and help preserve the special character and remarkable heritage of our esteemed school.

THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE OLD GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION IS THE FELLOWSHIP AND FRIENDSHIP, WHICH BEGINS AT SCHOOL AND IS CARRIED ON THROUGHOUT A LIFETIME.

Old Girl's history and branch information

The first meeting of the Old Girls’ Association was held in Timaru on 14 June 1920. Mrs William Raymond presided and there was an attendance of approximately 100.

Apart from the Home Association, branches are still active in Dunedin (est.1934); Christchurch (1934); Nelson (1978); Mid Canterbury (Ashburton) (1963) and Waimate (1967) [Link to branch newsletters]. There are also informal groups who meet in Geraldine and Temuka and most recently in Oamaru.

Through the Old Girls’ Association, past pupils keep in touch both with the school and with fellow old girls within their region – thereby strengthening membership in existing branches – and also forming new groups in other areas around New Zealand and overseas.
