TGHS Old Girl | New Zealand hockey representative
TGHS Old Girl June Leslie became an international hockey player, representing New Zealand in a Test series in England in 1953. Her international experience had begun even earlier: in 1950 she travelled overseas to play hockey in South Africa.
Hockey ran in the family. June's mother, Myrtle Pearce, represented New Zealand against England in 1914 and was one of six sisters who played for Canterbury. June later passed that passion to another generation as a coach, while her son Rob Leslie became a prominent hockey coach and administrator.
June's contribution to sport was recognised with her induction as a Sporting Legend of South Canterbury.
June died in Timaru on 31 July 2018, in her 91st year.
