Pamela Gibson

Pamela Gibson was announced in 2026 as one of four finalists for the Aoraki Foundation Women’s Fund, recognising a lifetime of service to Timaru Girls’ High School and the wider South Canterbury community.

Pam would be the first to say she prefers to stay under the radar. Recognition has never been her goal. Service, for Pam, is simply something you do. Raised in a family deeply involved in local committees and rural organisations, she grew up watching her parents and grandparents give their time to help their community thrive. That example stayed with her.

Since her first voluntary role in 1963 as Secretary and Treasurer of a local tennis club, Pam has contributed steadily across South Canterbury for more than six decades. Her service has included Meals on Wheels, Plunket committees, Red Cross leadership, PTA roles, Southburn Playgroup, Country Crafts Makikihi, parish outreach, Red Cross shop work, support for residents at The Croft through Presbyterian Support, and almost 30 years organising catering for Holme Station stock sales. If something needed doing, Pam stepped forward.

Her connection with Timaru Girls’ High School has been especially significant. After rejoining the Old Girls’ Association in the early 2000s, she began serving on the committee. In 2003, she stepped into the role of President and Chair of the 125th Jubilee Committee. With the support of the Old Girls’ community, she guided the Association through that milestone and has continued to serve for more than two decades.

Pam has also given many hours to the TGHS Archives, working alongside former TGHS archivist Joy Slade, who established them. Through careful research, organisation and dedication, she has helped preserve the stories of generations of students and staff, ensuring the history of our school remains alive and accessible.

While much of Pam’s contribution happens behind the scenes, its impact is lasting. Our students benefit from a strong sense of heritage and belonging because of people like her. Pam shows that leadership does not need to be loud. It can be steady, reliable and deeply committed.

We congratulate Pam on this well deserved recognition and thank her for the wisdom, resilience and generosity she continues to bring to Timaru Girls’ High School and the wider South Canterbury community.
